Le maestro presents today a new recording that adds to the long list of his interpretations of the composer's works. Maurizio Pollini is undoubtedly one of the best interpreters of Chopin of our time. His career was actually launched following his victory at the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in 1960, during which Arthur Rubinstein told the other jury members about the young Pollini: "this young man already plays better than any of us." More than 50 years later, Pollini, who will celebrate his 75th birthday on January 4, 2017, declares: "I am in love with Chopin - his music never ceases to amaze me." Simply titled Chopin - Late Works, the album offers some of the greatest late masterpieces of Frédéric Chopin - the six Mazurkas (op.59 and 63) and the three Waltzes (op.64), which Pollini had never recorded before, as well as a new recording of the Polish Fantasy op. 61, the Barcarolle op. 60, and the Nocturnes op. 62. These pieces are among Chopin's most experimental, particularly in the realm of harmony, through dense and polyphonic writing.
