La Démesure du Pas

La Démesure du pas explores music in motion recorded outdoors. The sound of the instruments nestles within the measure of the step, rhythmic, anchored in the breath of the body, to open up to the excess of the imagination and curl up in the world around them. In spring 2023, Matthieu Prual alternated between walking sessions and explorations of places in solo, duo, and quartet. The piece VIP was recorded in an ultra-resonant submarine base, that of Sainte-Marguerite, in an alcove overlooking the Atlantic. In Mespras, Ritournelle Dorémi, Clarinette bulle, Eau to Crunch, or Double Flûte, water becomes an element of musical play for the hands and stones of Toma Gouband and the saxophones and clarinets that dip their bells into it. Marche démesurante traverses the intimacy of a sunken lane, Marche Fictive a large rolling space. Marche dans l'épaisseur unfolds in the summer heat, Somewhere reveals the clarity of a placeless morning, and After that of a fantasized night, in the depth of a music attuned to the world, open to the audible and the inaudible.
