The Dutch pianist-composer is back with a new album - beautiful compositions for solo piano and a few pieces created with various keyboard instruments. In this new album, Matteo looks back, not with nostalgia, but with an awareness of time past. He evokes his childhood, the church organ he played, the pop songs of his adolescence, certain freedoms that have disappeared... His music moves from black and white to color like in a film. Matteo Myderwyk knows what is good for the soul. With his Warner debut, the 2021 album 'Notes of Longing', the Dutch composer and pianist took up the theme of longing and gave it an atmospheric expression in harmonically saturated piano sounds supported by synthesizers. With 'A Brief Nostalgia', Myderwyk continues his musical and spiritual journey into the inner emotional world: not melancholy, but the awareness of one's own past gives the twelve childhood impressions of this album their magic. In dazzling arrangements for solo piano or keyboard instruments such as the harmonium, toy piano or synthesizer and with titles such as "Nostalgia", "Legacy" or "Long lost friend", the pieces offer a glimpse into Matteo Myderwyk's personal space of experience, within which, for example, the church organ he played as a child in his hometown of Oudewater is still played. "Representing" this instrument, Myderwyk recorded parts of the album on the famous organ of St. Bavo's Cathedral in Haarlem. Other impressions - pop songs he grew up with, holidays and trips into nature - are also part of these very personal musical messages, such as the memory of Myderwyk's niece, who died young, in the piece "Sarabande for Julia", the most moving on 'A Brief Nostalgia' and which stands as a sonic monument.
