Moving Images

Description

Moving Images is a collaborative album by composers Frank Maston and Greg Foat, and marks the first release on the Magic Hollow label, founded by Daniel O'Sullivan. Deeply rooted in the tradition of classic library music, the album draws on the genre's most profound and elegant sounds: vintage keyboards, analog synthesis, drum machines, and melodic economy, all rendered with clarity, warmth, and restraint. Recorded in February 2025 at Ritmo Studios in Leysin, Switzerland, Moving Images unfolds as a suite of finely balanced pieces, characterized by restraint, texture, and a keen sense of timbre. Swiss bassist Elie Ghersinu plays a prominent role, his rich and fluid bass playing providing a constant foundation. This album draws its inspiration from the golden age of European library music, taking cues from the spirit of De Wolfe and Bruton productions, Alan Hawkshaw, Karl Jenkins and Mike Ratledge, and the refined orchestrations of Edmondo Giuliani and Alessandro Alessandroni. Far from being a pastiche, Moving Images appropriates the rigor and elegance of those recordings, transposing their language into a contemporary context.
