Vespro Della Beata Vergine

Two young Italian ensembles come together to revive a staging of the Vespers from the Venetian school dating back to the year of Monteverdi's death. Considered by musicologists as one of the main Italian composers of the early 17th century, Giovanni Antonio Rigatti spent most of his musical career in Venice, in the shadow of the "divine Claudio." The structure of these Vespers is drawn from the collection Messa e Salmi ariosi a tre voci from 1643. The performance setup is unusual: three male voices and a continuo, with a choir of instruments ad libitum (cornet and three trombones). An agile, inventive, and expressive staging of the Vespers service, which owes much, stylistically, to Monteverdi's Selva Morale e Spirituale, an undeniable source of inspiration for Rigatti. It contains thirteen unpublished pieces, recorded here for the first time worldwide.
