Mary Gauthier's sophomore album, "Drag Queens In Limousines," is finally available on vinyl. This is a truly foundational record from 1999 that offered insight into the developing queer culture, but also into a broader community with songs about real non-conformists, rebels, and outcasts. As Mary said in a recent interview for her book Saved By A Song, "I knew "Drag Queens In Limousines" needed to exist," she said. "I needed to talk about being queer and being an outsider, but I also wanted to show how a song can even transcend the queer person's experience in country music singing it. Suddenly, otherness becomes cool, and everyone who hears it wants to be one because the outsider experience is not unique to gays and lesbians. I tapped into that without even knowing it, and I was surprised by who related to the song. This was Gauthier's first globally available album and put her on the map for the folk music community. Now, it will be heard as it should for the first time! "
