A tribute to William Shakespeare, the best young British singers of the moment perform an essential composer of lyrical England in the second half of the 19th century, Sir Arthur Sullivan. Sir Arthur Sullivan is well known to fans of English lyrical music: he was the composer of several operas and operettas between 1860 and 1900. For this Chandos recording, the most talented young lyrical singers of today have chosen arias by Arthur Sullivan, some of which are music set by the composer to poems by Shakespeare. Soprano Mary Bevan, tenor Ben Johnson, baritone/bass Ashley Riches, are accompanied on piano by the excellent David Owen Morris.
