MARTYN BENNETT, a Scottish musician born in Canada, greatly influenced the modern evolution of Celtic fusion, a blend of traditional Celtic music and electronic music. At 10 years old, he played the bagpipes and won awards the following year. He then studied piano, violin, and composition from the age of 15 in Edinburgh, and later at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. His last album, Grit, re-released on July 28, 2017, was recorded during his battle with cancer and marked a drastic change in his sound. He became too weak to play instruments and had to turn to sequencers and synthesizers to continue creating.
