Piano Works - Nimbus Recordings Rediscovered

This recording was made in June 1972, a few months after the completion of the first recording studio specially designed by Nimbus Records in Birmingham. The sessions included works by Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms, two composers whose music Martin would later record for Nimbus. The reason why the work by Francis Poulenc was never published remains a mystery. It had been finalized as a master for production less than a month after the recording, but remained unused for 53 years. Martin Jones has been one of Britain's most respected solo pianists since his international breakthrough in 1968, the year he received the Dame Myra Hess Award. That same year, he made his London debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and his New York debut at Carnegie Hall, and since then, he has been in high demand for recitals and concerts on both sides of the Atlantic. He is a prolific artist who has recorded many albums, and among his many major projects are the complete solo piano works of Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, Percy Grainger, Igor Stravinsky, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Karol Szymanowski, Enrique Granados, Carlos Guastavino, Federico Mompou, Ernesto Halffter Escriche, Joaquin Nin, Hans Gál, Jean Françaix, Jean Roger-Ducasse, and Alan Richardson.
