Marlon Williams grew up in New Zealand and sang in the Christchurch Cathedral choir before his father, a Maori punk singer, introduced him to country music. His first band, The Unfaithful Ways, helped him gain notoriety in his home country and tour with Justin Townes Earle when he was only 17. The singer began his solo career in 2012 and moved to Melbourne in 2013 to start his project under the name Marlon Williams. He quickly became popular within the local scene and rapidly gained a national following. With his exceptionally versatile and evocative vocal timbre, Williams truly embodies his songs on a confident and diverse debut album, exemplified by "Dark Child," a dark yet brilliant ballad, and "Hello Miss Lonesome," on which the young man's voice soars over a bluegrass guitar tune. Young Marlon Williams is, in fact, already a young giant of alternative country.
