Ottawa composer/performer and Black Bough Records founder/director presents his debut Constellation album, an adventurous and approachable work of darkly ambient modern chamber music. EXO is a remarkable and invigorating suite of post-classical compositions on which Molnar performs all instruments. Meticulously self-recorded primarily with strings, harp and piano, EXO balances thematic melodism, polytonality and dissonance across three elegiac pieces of exquisite expressive dynamism. EXO carries an undercurrent influenced by dark industrial music and ambient metal in particular, with microphones purposefully positioned to pick up low frequencies from the body of the piano and a kick drum positioned as a resonant skin within the acoustic space.
