Dark atmosphere and 80s sounds. After releasing the EP No Bells On Sunday, which already heralded a wind of change, MARK LANEGAN and his band will release their new album, Phantom Radio, on October 20th. While his songs remain as dark and tormented as ever, the multi-talented rocker allowed himself to explore in greater depth the minimalist pop sounds he had kept in mind since the 80s. With the stoner rock aspect set aside, Phantom Radio emerges as the perfect successor to Blues Funeral, released in 2012. With this album, it can be said that the MARK LANEGAN BAND hasn't radically changed direction, but it has changed its ride. For example, some drum parts were recorded without a drummer, using a tablet application. Thus, behind the very good rock track Harvest Home, which opens the album, we discover an equally good but much more electronic tracklist, as evidenced by titles like Floor Of The Ocean or Seventh Day. Other tracks are pleasantly surprising, as is the case with I Am The Wolf, which could be the soundtrack to a spaghetti western, or The Wild People, which is almost country. The MARK LANEGAN BAND delivers a very well-crafted album here that will delight all discerning music lovers.
