Matalo! (Colonna Sonora Originale)

Description

Four Flies is thrilled to present the first-ever vinyl release of the soundtrack to Matalo!, one of the most captivating spaghetti western soundtracks ever made. Matalo! is a twilight western directed in 1970 by Milanese director Cesare Canevari, known for his visually striking genre films, starring Swedish enfant terrible Lou Castel and Italian actor Corrado Pani. Composer Mario Migliardi, who was also an orchestra conductor, pianist, and Hammond organist, overturns the rules of the Italian western. Get ready for a wild ride of psych-rock textures, swirling electronic filters, haunting reverbs, and concrete sounds—a sonic tapestry that seamlessly weaves influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Luciano Berio. Migliardi masterfully combines traditional folk instruments such as acoustic guitars and percussion with non-canonical electronic treatments, creating an electroacoustic alchemy that sounds both fresh and timeless today, probably far more so than it did in the 1970s. The highlight of the album is probably the rock song performed by Giano Ton, aka Giacomo Tosti. His 9-minute extended version, previously unavailable on vinyl, is a fantastic Hendrix-esque hard-blues-rock jam.
