Release originally scheduled for 08/23
With the release of "Amaryllis," the great American jazz trio made a dazzling return to the forefront after the success of their previous album, "Nothing Ever Was, Anyway," released in 1997.
The band offered a repertoire that was thoughtful, moving, joyful, and viscerally exciting. Some of the themes were already well-known, almost classics of "new jazz" – such as Marilyn Crispell’s "Rounds," Gary Peacock’s "Requiem" and "December Wings," or Paul Motian’s "Conception Vessel" – while others, completely new, presented themselves as surprising and beautiful free improvised ballads.
