Barbier de Seville/57

Description

Exceptional reissue meticulously restored in 24-bit/96Hz, produced by Abbey Road Studios from the original tapes. As evidenced by her performances in "The Barber of Seville" and in "The Turk in Italy" (by Rossini), Maria Callas, a great tragedian, could act with the same talent. The production at La Scala of the most popular of Rossini's operas in 1956 did not meet with great success with the public, but its stars - Callas, Tito Gobbi, and Luigi Alva - all found themselves in London for a recording session the following year. Callas then returned, for the role of Rosina, to her original mezzo-soprano range, and her interpretation of the aria "Una voce poco fa" - punctuated by an unforgettable "ma" (but) in the cabaletta - remains miraculous in spirit and elegance.
