Exceptional reissue meticulously restored in 24-bit/96Hz, produced by Abbey Road Studios from the original tapes. The name of Callas has been closely associated with the character of Tosca, and this role often appeared on the list of the prima donna's stage performances. While Turandot may have dominated in Puccini during her youth, and she embodied Cio-Cio San (Madame Butterfly) 3 times in Chicago in 1955, the other Puccini heroines in the present program did not belong to her stage repertoire. However, as Grammophone wrote at the time of its original release, "this recital bears the mark of an exceptional artistic signature, combining a form of genius for the theater and a keen concern for dramatic and musical characterization in the arias, all of which are different from current customs."
