CHANSONS POUR L'OREILLE GAUCHE (vinyl)

Description

After *Intranquillité*, released a few years ago, *Chansons pour l'oreille gauche* is the duo's second album. On this record, the worlds explored are multiple: Erik Satie and Debussy, as if obvious, free-jazz gusts in your face, a reinterpretation of Béla Bartók, Ravel quoted in *Malcom Malkovich*, a touch of Chopin in a *Funeral Blues*, the spicy aromas of South African jazz... The duo's music also embraces literature with its Baudelairean bursts, a dark homage to Antoine Volodine, another to Marguerite Duras. In fact, it turns out to be very cinematic: not only through its Dantesque cover of *Suspiria* composed by the band Goblin for Dario Argento's horror masterpiece, but precisely because this music is powerfully image-generating, between impressionism and expressionism. "The complicit duo, composed of pianist Marc Sarrazy and Laurent Rochelle on soprano saxophone and bass clarinet, is undoubtedly part of that category of adventurers of the famous 'blue note,' as demonstrated by this intense and winding record, with its deliberately surrealist title."
