Ritmo Y Sabor

Description

We are proud to present our reissue of the sought-after 1978 album "Ritmo Y Sabor" by Cuban master Manteca. A deep and hypnotic sonic excursion of Afro-Cuban/mambo rhythms to get lost in. Released in 1978, the album saw a number of different pressings on labels such as GRC, Desca Records and Sound Triangle Records. Stripped-down and lo-fi, it is a thrilling gem of Latin-jazz dance magic.Composed mainly of percussion and bass, the album is delivered by Carlos "Rico" Ramirez on bass, Carlos Patato on congas, the timbales of Nelson Padron and Lazaro Pla aka Manteca as bandleader. A Cuban legend, Manteca rose to fame playing with Ernesto Lecuona and the Cuban Boys. Although he participated in many recordings in his native Cuba, only a handful exist as a soloist or bandleader."Ritmo Y Sabor" overflows with energy regardless of the tempo of the track. With an instant ability to get you moving, the grooves come alive with each new rhythm introduced. Take for example the track "Afro Funky" which lives up to its name. A Latin-funk breakbeat workout, with a powerful walking bass line that serves as a foundation for the drummers to groove. An essential Afro-Cuban and rhythmic funk triumph, showcasing Manteca and his band in full flight.
