Mal/2

Description

An essential hard-bop, post-bop, and free-jazz pianist, Mal Waldron leads a stellar lineup on 'Mal 2,' released in November 1957 on the Prestige label. Saxophonists John Coltrane and Jackie McLean, trumpeter Idrees Sulieman, and drummers Ed Thigpen and Art Taylor are among the album's protagonists. On the album, the New York arranger and composer also pays tribute to Billie Holiday, whom he was accompanying at the time, with a bold reinterpretation of the standard 'Don't Explain.'
