Pietro Gnocchi was not only a chapel master in northern Italy in Brescia, but also for more than fifty years, until his late death at the age of 86, a priest, archaeologist, geographer, and great scholar, fluently speaking several languages.In addition to having composed an impressive body of sacred music whose titles are most often eccentric, this whimsical character wrote surprising pieces of instrumental music such as these concertos for strings and continuo inspired by the stilo antico. In a sense, Gnocchi reinterpreted in these last hours of the baroque, in a style that is his own, the "concerto grosso".
