1001 Centigrades

PREMIUM REISSUE, FAITHFUL TO THE ORIGINAL EDITION — NEW MASTERING. Released a year after Magma, this 1001° centigrades, which in its first edition was simply titled 2, is immediately marked by the prominence of Christian Vander's drumming, which was relatively discreet on the first album. We also find the martial singing of Klaus Blasquiz, but the rest of the personnel has changed, although François Cahen on keyboards, Françis Moze on bass, and Teddy Lasry leading the brass are back. The music of this second LP, while simple, is more structured than that of its predecessor, strictly following a story, initially that of Rïah Sahïltaahk, an inhabitant of the planet Kobaïa who comes to save Earth from all its ills before leaving in shame and drowning. The eponymous track that covers the entire first side narrates his misadventures, and as already mentioned, it is Vander's percussion that leads the dance. A dance that is often frantic, eruptive, propelled by the crashing piano of "Faton" Cahen and the devilish brass of Teddy Lasry and his new friends (Jeff Seffer and Louis Toesca). "Iss Lansï Doïoa" is close to both jazz and the New York avant-garde of repetitive music, as is the final track "Ki Ïahl ö Lähk," which is more melodic and closer to jazz rock, featuring a beautiful electric piano solo by François Cahen. A slightly more accessible record than its predecessor, but no less fascinating.
