Hilaire, originally from Cameroon, and I, from Guadeloupe, wanted to create music that represented both this closeness and this identity-based distance. The group is made up of musicians who are not necessarily directly linked to these Afro-Caribbean cultures. And yet, Hilaire and I knew that this African influence permeated the younger generations, often unconsciously but powerfully. Afro-Caribbean culture is a global, international, multicultural, 'exocultural' cultural phenomenon. The musicians came together through their affinity with the music we offered, because it already resonated with them as the echo of an obvious belonging, beyond being African or Guadeloupian. Julien Reyboz, the group's sound engineer and artistic director, as well as Zaf Zapha, the group's bassist and also artistic director, took on this project together to produce a recorded version of it. As the group's leader and composer, it is a great emotional experience for me to be able to share this project, in which for the first time I embrace my role as a singer. Of course, the flute punctuates. With this group, I am moved to rediscover my nomadic Creole, yet 'rooted' in the water that connects these lands of Africa and Guadeloupe. Ka-Frobeat is the fusion of 'Ka', the drum of traditional Guadeloupian music, and 'Frobeat' like Afrobeat, music created by Fela in Nigeria. It aims to be the heir of Gérard Lockel, Esnard Boisdur, Fela, Eugène Mona, who in my heart represent the stages of the initiatory journey that led me to this project. The Magic Malik Ka-Frobeat is dedicated to the late Hilaire Penda, who was the first to 'take it under his wing', in his own words, with his festival 'les rares talents'. One day on the Parisian metro, I met a Guadeloupian who questioned me about my origins. I told him it was complicated... He cut me short in my momentum and my attempt at explanation and asked me 'ès ou ka palé kréol'? I replied yes, that it was my paternal language. He summed it up with these words that have remained ingrained in me ever since, just as I am in the music of this project: 'Si ou ka palé kréol alos ou sé moun Gwadloup' (If you speak Creole then you are from Guadeloupe). This man told me that territory was language, that anchoring in a culture, a land, was language... That day, this stranger made me, forever, a Guadeloupian.' -- Magic Malik---","brand":"MAGIC MALIK KA","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55310259290456,"sku":null,"price":20220617.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/3521381571950_ef56c222-61f7-47fa-860b-e3e6591c1062.jpg?v=1760318304","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/magic-malik-ka_magic-malik-ka-frobeat-vinyl_2022_lad","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
