Mad Professor, whose real name is Neil Fraser, born in Georgetown, Guyana in 1955, has been one of the leaders of English dub since the early 1980s. Neil Fraser is a genius of electronic manipulation. He learned early on how to build his own equipment, which earned him his stage name Mad Professor. At the age of nine, he built a radio. This is one of the characteristics of "dubbers": a love for the soldering iron; especially that of King Tubby, the father of dub. But what is dub? Dub is a musical genre derived from Jamaican reggae, a real-time remix created from magnetic tapes by sound engineers. It is, originally, a radical remix that highlights the rhythmic bass and drum section and sound effects.
