Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser Macie Stewart unveils "When The Distance Is Blue," her debut album for International Anthem, described as "a love letter to suspended and transient moments." Returning to the piano, the original source of her creativity, Stewart creates a striking and cinematic work here, built around sound collages rich in prepared piano, field recordings, and string quartet arrangements, revealing an ephemeral and singular universe. Having become indispensable beyond the stage, Stewart has collaborated with Makaya McCraven, Japanese Breakfast; harmonized alongside Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), arranged for Alabaster DePlume, Mannequin Pussy, or SZA, and forms the art-rock and experimental duo Finom with Sima Cunningham. "When the Distance Is Blue" is the perfect synthesis of this journey, condensed into eight contemplative tracks somewhere between Alvin Curran and Claire Rousay.
