After the disastrous premiere in 1869, the excessively self-critical composer burned the manuscript of the work. As an opera composer, Tchaikovsky could draw inspiration from centuries of lyrical tradition in Western Europe, but the history of opera in Russia had only just begun a few years before his birth. Tchaikovsky's last opera, Iolanta, a one-act opera based on the operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan, never achieved the same popularity as The Queen of Spades. And it certainly never reached the same reputation as his ballet The Nutcracker, created at the same time in 1892. When Tchaikovsky died on November 6, 1893 (October 25 according to the Julian calendar), he was acclaimed worldwide primarily for his instrumental music, his ballets, the first Russian to be so revered! Depending on how you count adaptations and fragments, he composed between nine and twelve operas. This edition also includes the incidental music Snegurochka (The Snow Maiden) and Hamlet.","brand":"Lyrique","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58000420307288,"sku":null,"price":20180601.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0881488170535.jpg?v=1787092251","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/lyrique_complete-operas-fragments-incidental-music_2018","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
