Lunatic Soul is the solo project of singer and multi-instrumentalist Mariusz Duda. After the heavily electronic sound of his previous albums, *Through Shaded Woods* (his 7th album) is completely devoid of it, and Duda expands his musical explorations to include references to Scandinavian and Slavic folk bands such as Heilung and Wardruna. Sophisticated and rich in sounds, it is the most intense, dynamic, and danceable album of his career, and it is the first on which he plays all the instruments. Mariusz Duda seems to have put behind him the personal darkness that inspired his previous albums. The album becomes musically "brighter" as it progresses—from the atmospheric introduction of "Navvie" to the title track, which leads the listener into a melodious trance like "Oblivion," echoing the style of Dead Can Dance.
