L'intégrale des trios

Description

With this very first recording, dedicated to the corpus of Beethoven's six piano trios with opus numbers, the Sora Trio immediately establishes a strong identity: that of a group committed to demanding repertoires, concerned with authenticity, and bold in its approach. Drawing on meticulous exploration of the manuscripts and the composer's correspondence, as well as rigorous analysis of his scores, Clémence de Forceville (violin), Angèle Legasa (cello), and Pauline Chenais (piano) reveal the extraordinary modernity of a visionary creator who was able to develop and revolutionize, from his first opus in 1795, the form initiated by his master Haydn: conceived as large-scale concert works, his trios manifest the uniqueness of a highly contrasted writing, integrating all the sound and technical specificities of each instrument into contrapuntal combinations. The famous "Archduke" Trio (op. 97), the last composed in this cycle, appears as a crowning achievement of the genre, an "ode to nature and love whose humanistic scope is evident," explains the Sora Trio. As for the "Ghost Trio" (op. 70), also very famous, it allows the composer to open wide the doors to a new sound and emotional universe. While the three young women, nurtured by this repertoire since their meeting, contribute to the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth, they also enhance the image of the artist tortured by his deafness to convey a wide range of very human feelings. "The further we progress through the opuses," explains the Sora Trio, "the more we see a psychological and philosophical dimension growing in Beethoven's discourse. We have discovered a very different face, that of a young man perpetually in love, full of humor and irony, whose sensitivity is evident in each of the trios."
