The collaboration between the late Viennese pianist Paul Badura-Skoda and Michel Bernstein, the French record producer and founder of Arcana, was one of the most fruitful and enduring relationships in the history of recording. Among their major achievements is the complete set of piano sonatas by Franz Schubert performed on period instruments. Recorded in the 1990s, it long remained a reference and one of the best-sellers in the Arcana catalog (A 364 – 9 CDs). As part of the celebrations for Beethoven's birth anniversary, Arcana is releasing a new edition of a recording made in the 1980s, which has been out of print for many years. To this day, it is one of the few complete recordings on period instruments, and in many ways, a major achievement.
