Blue Veil

Description

The 40-minute composition Blue Veil, recorded at the Église du Saint-Esprit in Paris, is the first to document the solo cello work of musician and composer Lucy Railton. It invites listeners into the realm of precisely tuned resonant states: states made manifest through Railton’s meticulous exploration of her cello’s subtlest acoustic characteristics, which seamlessly intertwine with the embodied modalities of the mind’s attention and imagination. Blue Veil is the result of an in-depth exploration of the inner worlds of tuning, an undertaking in turn informed by and emerging from Lucy’s realizations of the music of Catherine Lamb and Ellen Arkbro, her collaborative work with Kali Malone and Stephen O’Malley, and her interpretive practice of the works of Maryanne Amacher, Morton Feldman, and others.
