Unlike Lost Boys' previous albums, rooted in a specific moment, Pale Bloom was built slowly, like a creation myth frozen in amber: an ancient and complex origin story, steeped in mystery and metaphor, seeking neither explanation nor resolution. CLASH describes the album as "a perfect storm of arty goth pop, carried by a slowed-down grunge skeleton, dark and inhabited, traversed by violin lines evoking the strangeness of Venus in Furs." For its part, Brooklyn Vegan praises the magnetic presence of Kruger, "an authentic artist, endowed with a rare intensity and sense of drama, whose gaze seems to both pierce through you and delve into the depths of your soul."
