Lucius is back with their third album, *Second Nature*, produced by six-time Grammy Award winner Dave Cobb. The writing of each new Lucius song begins with a discussion between Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe, based on their current concerns. And in the spring of 2020, they had a lot to say to each other! Since 2007, Holly and Jess have composed in this way, sharing their stories to incorporate them into the lyrics and chord progressions of their indie-pop anthems. On stage, they are two parts of a whole, similarly coiffed and dressed, one mirroring the other and vice-versa. Off stage, they each have their own respective lives, but remain close, like a chosen family. Holly and Jess have shared many joys traveling the world to promote their debut album *Wildewoman*, released in 2013, followed by its successor *Good Grief* in 2016. They have also gone through complicated times together, and when one of them experiences a shock, the other is there to listen, reflect with her, and help her through the storm. In the fall of 2016, the duo and the musicians who accompanied them on stage (multi-instrumentalists Peter Lalish and Dan Molad) were close to exhaustion after three years of incessant touring. It was then that Roger Waters invited Holly and Jess to join him on an international tour as backing vocalists. The duo quickly accepted, seeing it as an opportunity to explore new sounds in an external musical universe, while giving Lucius a bit of a break. This interlude would last three years. Bolstered by this experience, the band returned to work in 2018. Lucius recorded an acoustic album that reimagined old tracks. They also continued to collaborate with rock and pop stars such as Sheryl Crow, The War On Drugs, Ozzy Osbourne, John Legend, and Harry Styles, but their need to compose led them to work on *Second Nature*. This third Lucius album is the closest to a musical version of these intimate conversations. The title makes perfect sense: writing for each other has become second nature. Most of the album's subjects are addressed for the first time. The album contains ten new songs with contributions from Jenn Decilveo (Grammy, Brit Awards, and Mercury Prize nominee), Brandi Carlile, and Sheryl Crow.
