For nearly two decades, Lucia has established herself as an artist on the British indie scene. Her latest album, Picking Petals, is the fruit of this hard work and bold vision—a project rooted in her Scottish upbringing and shaped by the creative community she has built in Glasgow and beyond, with notable collaborations with Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES and Abigail Morris of The Last Dinner Party. Lucia's first album, Burning Castles, was stripped-down and majestic, built on metronomic rhythms and synth-pop. The intention behind Picking Petals became clear in response to that. This time, it was essential to capture the essence of Lucia & The Best Boys' live shows—powerful and electrifying. In recent years, Lucia has shared the stage with a new wave of women in alternative music: she joined Wolf Alice on their Blue Weekend tour in 2022 and recently opened for The Last Dinner Party. In summer 2024, she also toured alongside the renowned Shirley Manson during Garbage's UK and European shows. The Scottish synchronicity is particularly poignant. It is in this rich and historic landscape that Picking Petals came to life, with Lucia heading north to write in weather-beaten cabins, accompanied by her band or alone. Moreover, the songwriter insisted that acclaimed alt-pop producer Yves Rothman discover her territory rather than the sun of Los Angeles, settling into Mogwai's Castle of Doom studios, a Glasgow house transformed into a sonic citadel. For some, Picking Petals will be a debut album. For Lucia & The Best Boys, it is simply a return to their roots.
