The neoclassical composers of 1920s Paris were among the first to revive the harpsichord as a \"modern\" instrument, inspired by the early stirrings of the early music movement, notably through musicians such as Nadia Boulanger and Wanda Landowska. However, post-war modernists paid it little attention, and it is only in recent decades, thanks in particular to the talent and imagination of virtuosos such as Elisabeth Chojnacka, Mahan Esfahani, and Luca Quintavalle, that the harpsichord has regained its full place and prestige in contemporary music, as in the time of d'Anglebert and Couperin. Indeed, the oldest pieces in this panorama of modern Italian music for harpsichord date from 1988: Mordenti and Neumi by Ennio Morricone, the doyen of film music composers and especially spaghetti westerns, but whose training was decidedly classical. Composed of two interlocking chromatic canons, Mordenti particularly deserves greater attention. Many other works here play with the instrument's history and sonorities, such as Rumbling Gears, a hyperkinetic toccata by Sylvia Colasanti, and Ricercare by Fabio Vacchi. Scarlatti inspired another piece by Vacchi, as well as an ornamented elaboration of the same language by Jacopo Baboni Schilingi in Scarlet K141. Le Petit Ordre by Carlo Galante explicitly reconnects with Couperin's universe, but this time tinged with modern harmonies evoking a vanished world. Several pieces from the last two years, such as Nouvelles by Vittorio Montalti and Leonardo Marino, inevitably evoke the experience of solitude imposed by the pandemic. Thanks to a comprehensive introduction by Luca Quintavalle presenting all the works and composers, this album offers a striking introduction to the music of many composers hitherto little represented in the current catalog, and constitutes an important addition to the harpsichord repertoire.","brand":"Luca Quintavalle","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57475792634200,"sku":null,"price":20211027.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/luca-quintavalle_musique-contemporaine-italienne-pour-clavecin-quintavalle_2021_disco-outhere-distribution-france","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
