Lowlives' debut album doesn't so much fan the flames as pour gasoline on them with joyous impetuosity. With singer Lee Downer and drummer Luke Johnson soon joined by guitarist Jaxon Moore and bassist Steve Lucarelli, the nascent band was founded on a shared love of '90s alt and grunge, and a mutual desire to make music once again for the sheer joy of it. The debut album, *Freaking Out*, is steeped in that same spirit. After all, the intervening years have mostly been about cultivating that mindset, first through jam sessions in Luke's home studio and then through nascent adventures on the road.
