Tudert nni (A Certain Life), the new album by Lounis Aït Menguellet: With the flagship title "Tudert nni," as well as "I w aggad-iw" (To My Own), the artist pays a heartfelt tribute to his loyal audience spanning several generations. There is also a tribute to love with "Tajmilt i tayri" (Hymn to Love) and to youth with "Slam i temzi" (Ode to Youth). With "Taqsit niden" (Another Story), the artist evokes "the aftermath of independence [...] when a leaden weight fell on the entire society," while "Yella was" (There Was a Day...) speaks of "the days without," and "Zer kan" (Look...) talks about "the earth, air, water, and fire." From the very first listen, "Tudert nni" stands out as an unstoppable track that sets the tone for the album. In this long and powerful poem, driven by a steady rhythm (the performer takes evident pleasure in it) and a subtle alchemy of arrangements, mainly featuring guitar and percussion, Lounis Aït Menguellet invites us to retrace the course of memory, the thread of our reminiscences and dreams, with their procession of thoughts scattered along the way, often forgotten and not always recognizable. It then becomes possible, the poet further states, to understand the origin of our wounds and perhaps to find peace.
