Already partners on many albums released by Louis Sclavis on ECM — including the latest, "Characters On A Wall" — the clarinetist and pianist Benjamin Moussay have in recent years considerably developed their rapport and their sense of interplay, successfully performing numerous concerts across Europe.
In this new album, featuring only original compositions (two-thirds by the pianist, one-third by the clarinetist) – the French musical duo ventures into the realm of chamber music, creating a world of intimate conversations. They juxtapose contemplative sequences of intense lyricism with much more whimsical moments that highlight the joyful complicity at the heart of their collaboration. Always highly focused, the duo draws intense and warm improvisations from delicate themes, which never overflow but instead patiently explore the potential of the written material through fluid dialogues of rare creativity.
