Released in 1992, and awarded the 1993 Django d'Or in the Best French Jazz Album of the Year category, the album was out of print and unavailable. Ouch! Records is now offering it on vinyl for the first time. Conceived as a follow-up to his sextet creation in tribute to Duke Ellington for the Paris Jazz Festival, the album was recorded at Gimmick Studio in Yerres in 1991. Alongside Louis Sclavis: Yves Robert (trombone), Dominique Pifarély (acoustic & electric violins), François Raulin (piano, keyboards), Bruno Chevillon (double bass), and Francis Lassus (drums). Ellington on the Air is much more than a simple tribute to Duke Ellington: it's a true re-creation. As Louis Sclavis himself puts it: "Neither parody nor embalming, but presence, starting point, common thread, inspirer."
