Louis Jucker has long had a fondness for second-hand suitcases. Perhaps because he only travels by train, perhaps because they embody the fleetingness of time, the instability of places, the impermanence of things. Or perhaps just for practical reasons, because they allow him to easily gather and transport his electro-acoustic DIY creations and other little sonic tricks that he enjoys unpacking and revealing during his concerts. 'Suitcase Suite' condenses everything Louis Jucker loves to do with his life; rummaging through flea markets, tinkering in his attic, inviting other artists to join his projects, recycling awkwardness and happy accidents, sharing emotions, developing shows like mysterious laboratories, plucking strings and turning knobs, sonorizing mechanisms, distorting sounds and images, pulling cables and singing together. The project began in 2019 following a writing commission from the Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain (NEC). Louis Jucker accepted the mandate on the following conditions: having the right to build all the instruments, being present on stage to sing the songs with the rest of the orchestra, having a free hand to create one or more albums based on this, and continuing the project beyond the scope of the commission. 4 years later, 'Suitcase Suite' was released by Humus Records. Biography: Louis Jucker wears many hats: singer, author, theater or film musician, producer, tinkerer, and event curator. Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, he earned an architecture degree in Lausanne, from which point he became a "full-time DIY musician" and dedicated himself entirely to his do-it-yourself ventures. As the powerful singer of the hardcore punk band Coilguns, he tours extensively in Europe and overseas. He also writes theater music and poetic folksongs for himself and his ever-growing circle of artists; he loves to invent and build instruments, tinker with recording techniques, and collaborate on transdisciplinary projects, notably with visual artist Augustin Rebetez and actors Joël Maillard and Camille Mermet. Louis Jucker is co-founder of the Humus Records label and the Mono Hobo association, a production platform that networks artists across disciplines through workshops, recordings, and performances. Louis is a recipient of the Swiss Music Prize 2021.
