Lou Barlow announces the release of his new solo album, Brace the Wave: This album, his third under his own name, marks Lou Barlow's major solo return, six years after the release of Goodnight Unknown in 2009. Barlow's imposing and glorious discography includes albums by Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Folk Implosion, and his very first solo effort, Sentridoh. Usually more comfortable writing songs that make one uneasy, the singer-songwriter here explores a new transitional period in his life. We thus find his trademark with such a distinctive sound on tracks like "Redeemed," "Wave," and "Moving," written in the studio, while other songs like "Lazy" and "C&E," recorded live in the studio, are in a more traditional style. The album was recorded in six days with Justin Pizzoferrato (who had previously worked on Dinosaur Jr.'s albums Beyond, Farm, and I Bet on Sky) in Easthampton, Massachusetts, Barlow's new residence after seventeen years in Los Angeles.
