"Beautiful Dreamer" is a two-part suite dedicated to Steve Dalachinsky—an original among New Yorkers and everyone else, an untiring champion of the avant-garde, an ingenious poet, and a close friend of Loren Connors. Connors recorded these two guitar pieces shortly before Dalachinsky’s passing in September 2019. Afterward, Connors returned to the music, and, for the first time ever, used post-production to transform his real-time improvisations into an ethereal soundscape. This is recognizably Loren Connors: rich, ghostly sounds born of the blues, and yet, he takes a new direction where slowness reveals a spectrum of shifting notes in the manner of a choir, from roaring baritones to vibrant sopranos. "Beautiful Dreamer" honors Dalachinsky’s dreams as much as it captures the suspended dancer on the cover by Auguste Rodin.
