Loreena McKennitt's 'Under A Winter's Moon' was recorded live during a series of concerts in the sanctuary of a historic church in December 2021. The two-disc set features approximately an hour of music and a half-hour of spoken word that interweave to create a unique and evocative listening experience. Under A Winter's Moon is a captivating live performance that combines McKennitt’s eclectic Celtic sound with elements found in many Indigenous civilizations. It offers both a connection to the past and the calm spirit of the season, which continues to carry us today and beyond. This is the 16th album in her catalog. The 15 songs on the new album include beloved songs such as “Snow,” “Coventry Carol,” “Good King Wenceslas,” and “The Huron Carol” – Canada’s oldest known Christmas song. The stories are narrated by actors Cedric Smith and Tom Jackson, as well as artist Jeffrey Red George. McKennitt, who, in addition to singing, plays the harp, keyboard, and accordion, is accompanied by Caroline Lavelle on cello and wind instruments, Graham Hargrove on percussion, Errol Fischer on violin, Pete Watson on guitar and 12-string bouzouki, and Cait Watson on Irish whistle, who also provide backing vocals. McKennitt is known for her intercultural blend of pop, Celtic, and world music. She has sold over 14 million albums worldwide. Her recordings have achieved gold and platinum status in 15 countries, across four continents.
