The Book of Secrets is the 6th album by Loreena McKennitt, released in 1997. This album stays true to the formula that made The Visit and The Mask and Mirror successful: a succession of sung or instrumental pieces, sometimes soft and slow, sometimes rhythmic and lively, open to influences from Celtic, Mediterranean, and Eastern folklores. This album was recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in the UK and produced by Loreena herself. It features the track "The Mummer's Dance," as well as the famous "Marco Polo." It includes musicians who have played with Peter Gabriel, such as David Rhodes (guitar) and Manu Katché (drums). Loreena herself plays the piano, keyboards, harp of course, and accordion.
