Chostakovitch, master symphonistThe London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its principal guest conductor, Gianandrea Noseda, continues its exploration of the music of Chostakovitch by performing here the monumental Symphony No. 4. The Russian composer long considered this work to be his finest creation. Extravagant and stimulating at the same time, this symphony with its epic character requires the presence of more than a hundred musicians, including colossal sections of percussion and brass. Due to Soviet censorship, the work remained unfinished for nearly thirty years, until in 1961, it revealed itself to become one of the most important milestones in the composer's output.
