{"product_id":"loma_dont-shy-away_2020","title":"Don't Shy Away","description":"On December 26, 2018, Emily Cross received a very enthusiastic email from a friend: Brian Eno was talking about her band on BBC radio. He praised Black Willow, the self-titled debut album by Loma, saying he was listening to it on repeat. At the time, a second album from Loma seemed unlikely. The band had debuted through an unexpected collaboration between Emily, multi-talented musician and sound engineer Dan Duszynski, and Shearwater's leader Jonathan Meiburg, who wanted to take a backseat after years at the microphone. They had just completed a grueling tour with an impressive performance on a crowded beach at Sub Pop's SPF 30 festival, during which Emily jumped into the crowd and then into the sea while the band continued to play on stage. An emotional peak that also felt like a natural end for the band. After the tour, Emily went to the countryside in Mexico to work on her visual art and a solo record, while Jonathan started a new project with Shearwater. But after a few months (and Eno's encouraging words), the trio changed their minds and found themselves at Dan's place in the Texas countryside, where they began to craft the songs that would form Don’t Shy Away. The resulting album is somewhat spectacular: a radiant work whose lightness conceals its current themes of solitude, impermanence, and the search for light in deep darkness. A series of guests contributed to the captivating soundscape of Don’t Shy Away, including touring members Emily Lee (piano, violin) and Matt Schuessler (bass), Jenn Wasner from Flock of Dimes\/Wye Oak, and a surprisingly heavy brass section. And then there’s Brian Eno. Loma invited him to participate in the mantra \"Homing,\" which concludes the album. He never spoke directly with the band, but his complete mix arrived by email late one night, unexpectedly, and they gathered to listen to it in the room Dan uses as a control room. It was everything they had hoped for: minimal yet mesmerizing, warm yet enigmatic. A perfect ending for an album that speaks of finding a new home in an old one.","brand":"Loma","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58283304616280,"sku":null,"price":20201001.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0098787136623.jpg?v=1787784329","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/loma_dont-shy-away_2020","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
