« The Californian band returns with a new album after three years of absence. Listening to these first tracks, it was worth the wait! » Les Inrocks The Californians of LOCAL NATIVES finally release their new album, Sunlit Youth! The Los Angeles quintet thus breaks a long year of silence punctuated only by a few small surprise shows. Sunlit Youth concludes a trilogy of albums that began in 2010 for LOCAL NATIVES with their first full-length Gorilla Manor, followed in 2013 by the very well-received Hummingbird, which entered directly at 12th on the Billboard 200. This new album differs from the previous ones and marks a renewal for the band, which has decided to change its writing style and get more from their songs. The three main songwriters of the band, Taylor Rice (vocals and guitar), Kelcey Ayer (vocals, keyboards, percussion), and Ryan Hahn (vocals, guitar), each produced more than fifty songs on their own and kept only the twelve best tracks that make up the album. We discover in turn danceable tracks, a dark pop reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, a soul swing, and futuristic anthems. But while LOCAL NATIVES explores new waters, the band has lost none of the sound and qualities that brought us joy in their early days and delivers a superb album full of optimism and joy!
