This album was recorded in the heart of Casamance, in the village of Bignona, in a typical regional house made of earth, with thick walls, producing a warm acoustic open to the outside world. Frédéric Galliano's idea was to bring the Belmondo brothers together with the Diola culture, known for its typical percussion combining wood and struck iron, as well as some unique instruments like the ekontine (a 4-string guitar) or Diola flutes. The typical vocal melodies of Casamance are also strong markers of this album, recorded in a few days, live and with the improvisation characteristic of jazz. Often composed of duets, with the exception of \"Osoforal\" recalling 1960s jazz, the album's tracks are marked by an artistic direction that presents the Belmondo brothers in a more stripped-down light than usual. Composed of duets or slow tempos, these tracks and their unique sound capture give this album an original flavor where each part expresses its specificity of improvised jazz and Diola culture. Sometimes tinged with humor (Bach to Casamance or Calypso Diola) or more softness (Casa Sport), this is a truly unprecedented and creative recording delivered to us. This album must also be placed in its context: recorded in 2002, it was at the time completely new to have this kind of in-situ encounter between European and African musicians. It should therefore be listened to in a specific way.
