Collectors of Krautrock and heavy metal have known it for a long time: many hidden treasures can be found in the regional scenes of the 70s and 80s. For example, most of the rare singles and albums of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, 1978-1984) come from local bands looking to sell something at concerts and at the local record store. You can also find them in Germany. As always, Golden Core has dug deep and stumbled upon Limerick from Pirmasens. Limerick was founded in 1978 and went through several lineup changes until the recording of their first single "Hard Work" "Alaska Nights" in 1980. This rarity, which can be found here as a bonus track, already shows with the A-side rock that the young gentlemen were definitely oriented towards hard rock, while the B-side recalls some of the glam heroes of the time. A very successful and, above all, very exciting calling card today!
Saarländische Rundfunk became aware of Limerick, and in 1981 they played at the SR1 school festival (with Thomas Orner among others) at the Johanner Markt and were supported by cult presenter Manfred Sexauer. In 1982, they already shared the stage in Saarbrücken with big names like Kim Wilde, which earned them a spot on the SWR show "Glaskasten", where they appeared several times in a row. Supraregional success was already in sight, which did not go unnoticed by Ralf Siegel, who became involved in the production of an LP. The LP "On Tour" was recorded at the Olympia studios in Munich and contains 12 original compositions in the German language. The partly quite hard and rough material was presented in 1982 1983 as a special guest of the Climax Blues Band and teenie stars Speedy (CD reissue LP on Golden Core), among others. Four-digit attendance figures were no longer a rarity for Limerick. They were also allowed to perform at the famous Quartier Latin in Berlin. In 1984, the band dissolved without officially breaking up. Both guitarists switched to the metal band Steel. Since 2013, Limerick has been active again in the LP lineup and has released, again regionally, a new single. "On Tour" is a forgotten pearl of German hard rock, partly with a 70s beat. Comparisons with certain NWOBHM rarities cannot be denied, even if Limerick occasionally leaves the path of heavy and then offers perfect German rock. The LP and the single were overdubbed by Patrick Engel (Metal Blade, High Roller Records etc.) and restored and remastered by Neudi.
