LIIMA
Liima is made up of Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö with Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen, and Rasmus Stolberg from the Danish band Efterklang, a trio with four essential albums. The quartet's first album, simply titled ii (double i), features tracks written in Finland, Berlin, Istanbul, and Madeira during 4-week residencies in each city. Each location influenced the sound, sometimes even through field recording and sampling techniques. Each residency concluded with a concert where the quartet presented the newly written tracks to an audience.
Finnish for 'Glue,' Liima offers true spontaneity in songwriting. The four members were able to create a creative, intuitive dynamic from a simple live setup, like a collective consciousness that sculpts and transforms concepts and ideas into songs. It took them only 3 days to record the album in October 2015 in Berlin with producer Jonas Verwijnen and Francesco Donadello on mixing, playing the entire album live in one take with no overdubs. A unique artistic approach for a magnificent album!
