Lightnin' Hopkins (1912-1982) was a high-level country bluesman whose career began in the 1920s and extended into the 1980s. One of the most influential blues guitarists to emerge from Texas, Hopkins had a unique fingerpicking style that alternated single notes with rhythm and bass guitar, adding percussive elements by hitting or tapping the body of his guitar.
