Waxwork Records is proud to present "Rising", the debut solo album by Lia Braswell. This opus marks Braswell's emergence as a full-fledged singer-songwriter, unveiling an ethereal dream-folk, favoring atmospheric melodies and introspection. If Braswell's name sounds familiar, that's normal. A touring drummer for bands such as A Place To Bury Strangers, TR/ST, Le Butcherettes, and Sextile, among others, she has played on almost every continent and participated in internationally renowned festivals like Coachella and Cruel World. Her impressive background therefore fully shines through in the ethereal and skillfully orchestrated dream pop of "Rising". Simultaneously evoking the airy atmosphere of Cocteau Twins, the bold pop experimentation of Kate Bush, and the retro, hyper-danceable synthwave of contemporary artists like Riki and Nuovo Testamento, Braswell's assured presence, both as a singer-songwriter and vocalist, gives birth to a work free from the awkwardness one might expect from a new project. Equally striking is the finesse of her lyrics, whose deeply evocative and delicately personal narratives elevate an already moving music to heights close to the sublime. Moving from the relative anonymity of a drum kit to the harsh light of center stage comes with its share of daunting challenges, but if Braswell feels any apprehension, it absolutely does not show in the quality of her music. After all, when you've already toured with Iggy and the Stooges at age 20, launching a solo career might seem quite modest in comparison. What is undeniable is that Lia Braswell possesses a remarkable talent for writing and performance, as evidenced by her stunning debut album. Backed by an already full career, Lia Braswell offers us with "Rising" a new step in a constantly expanding body of work, far richer than the sum of its parts. I write every day since 2013, a practice that allowed me to find the right words and feelings to condense such deep emotions into 4 to 5 minute songs. This is an album that comes from the deepest part of my heart and reflects everything it has been through." Waxwork Records is thrilled to present "Rising" as a deluxe double LP, including three unreleased bonus tracks, a splattered "Zinnia" color vinyl, a thick gatefold sleeve with glossy UV varnish, a vertical strip, a 30 x 30 cm color insert with lyrics, and a 45 x 60 cm color poster. Also available as a CD box set and a limited edition vinyl adorned with flowers, produced in collaboration with Romanus Custom Vinyl MFG.
